Oi.
Sometimes the responsibility of keeping a blog updated isn't so easy to meet... The last month has flown by, and (as unforgivable as this is) I haven't had much time to tell everyone what's been going on in our lives. Or even just in Oliver's life, which is all everyone cares about now, really. No pictures, sorry. I've been having trouble getting them to post lately. (If anyone knows of a good solution -- ahem, DAN -- please let me know where to look.)
O is doing great. He'll be 4 months (wow) in a couple of days. We went to get his immunizations on Wednesday, and he is 13 pounds and a bit, and 2' long. He's landing right in the same percentiles as he has been since birth, so his growth has been pretty normal... at least in that sense.
As many will know, he's been standing with some assistance since he was about 3 weeks old. Over the past couple of weeks, he's learned to stand on his own against his excer-saucer or a stool (with mom or dad waiting for the inevitable tip-over -- imagine balancing a baseball bat on the palm of your hand and you'll have a pretty good idea of his stability). About 2 weeks ago, I managed to help him actually walk down the hall, but then he promptly decided he didn't want to do that any more -- until this week. Yesterday I was helping him stand and play on the floor. All of a sudden, he swung his head around and saw a toy on the chair a few feet away. His feet started motoring, and he half-waddled his way to the chair. Once he got there, I was so impressed that I moved him back to the starting line and let him do it again... and again... and again. I can't imagine how frustrating it is to go through all that effort only to have to start over. Or can I...
We're thinking about starting him on solid food next week. He has a doctor's appointment coming up, so if everything is A-OK, then we can break into the rice cereal. "We" have already let him taste a few things, like jello and fruit juice, and he's been interested in what we're eating lately, so it's probably time.
In other news, we've started looking for a house. There's nothing much to say yet, except that the Edmonton real estate market is nutty. We've seen a 900 SF (yes, nine hundred square feet) bungalow for $180K (very nice place, but are they insane???? probably not, unfortunately). There's a lot out there, but anything in our price range that isn't a crack-house, between two other crack-houses, a front for a brothel, condemned, or about to burn down (yes, we looked at a house that burned down a couple of days later) will probably have multiple bidders. Fun fun fun!
